Sometimes It’s Just the Weirdest Things that Make a Family

It’s okay if you don’t like my sofas.  Some people love them and other people are mystified.  Here they are:

parenting, family, step family, step daughter, remarriage, divorce

I love my sofas. They are decorated by our children.  They are memories that you sit on.  I bought plain, canvas sofas and picked out the colors that I wanted for the room.   Then, I armed the children with potatoes and their hands to decorate the sofas.  They carved their initials and other patterns into the potatoes and used the taters as stamps.  Their handprints are everywhere.

In addition, we videotaped the entire process because we think that our future grandchildren will want to see their parents painting the couches.  Each sofa is signed by our children.  Nothing needed to be said because you knew that we were one family when you came into the room.  Our past and future memories were right there.
