• MARIA SHRIVER AND HER FRIEND WEAR T-SHIRTS TO SPEAK FOR THEM: HEY! WE ARE TREND SETTERS!

  • Maria Shriver and Martha Beck wore T-shirts while shopping. Maria’s shirt said: “Change the world with courage, wisdom and strength” while Martha’s shirt said: “Karma”. Clearly, their shirts were speaking for them. If I am a betting man, I expect to see other celebrities expressing their feelings on T-shirts.

For my family, we have been expressing our thoughts on T-shirts for years. I think we have just become trendsetters. If you are a Goldberg child that graduates from anything, expect to see a crowd of people cheering you on: all wearing the same shirt. If it is a special birthday, you may see a shirt that talks about you and your special day. If there is a family vacation, everyone is required to wear the official shirt. (See photo)

Our shirts are works of art and one never knows what they may say. For example, when our youngest son, Ean, graduated from college, his shirt had his picture on the front. It is our policy that your picture is on the front of the shirt, along with the date and explanation of your accomplishment. However, the back of the shirts has been unique to that child.

So, for Ean, we decided to recount one of our favorite college experiences. The family just laughed and laughed when Ean brought home his college laundry, but forgot to remove a co-ed’s thong. Of course, he gave his laundry to Mom and, of course, I found the thong. The best part is that we were having a family dinner so I found the thong with the entire family present. If you are looking for a way to get your stepfamily to blend, have someone give Mom his or her laundry and include someone else’s thong. Whether you are a Mom or the Step Mom, the reaction is the same. Geeez!!!!!

So the back of his college graduation T-shirt says the following:
    “Congratulations, Ean
Proud Recipient of the University of Arizona Green Award

For his work on How to Save Water When Doing Laundry.
If you Wash Your Underwear Along with a Co-Ed’s Thong….
Bring that Laundry Home to Your Mom to Wash…..
You Save The Tucson Water Table!”
The T-shirt was a lovely bright green.

Over the years, we have a huge rainbow of family T-shirts that espouse the accomplishments of one another. We also have a few hats that do the same thing! Our children have told us that they always say to their friends at life cycle events: “You will see my family. They will all be wearing the same shirt in one color”. By the way, we all wear the shirts: both bio family and the step relatives. It is a visual way of showing our children that we are behind them in one spirit.
