Osama Bin Laden is dead. As a Mom, I always wonder how we got here. He started out no different than the rest of us. He was a darling baby who was loved by his parents. His Mom adored him like we adore all of our children. So, what happened and what can we learn? One thought always seemed clear. Osama felt that the U.S had betrayed “his” country and “his” people and, as a result, a terrorist was born.
The real truth is that there is no such thing as “his”, “my”, “our” or “your” anything. Human beings do not “own” anything, yet we continue to believe these notions. At the risk of sounding very ‘wooh-wooh’, ideas of ownership are not real. Taking this idea to the next level, what if we raised our children to own nothing? What if we never taught the notion of ownership? We could not lose anything, because you never would have owned it to begin with. So, the definition of winning would be making sure that we all had enough to eat, provided shelter and protected our children. We would be back to the basics of kindness and the golden rule.
Our families would be one family and there could not be a ‘yours’, ‘mine’ and ‘ours’ mentality. We would all be helping one another. Doesn’t this sounding inviting? Is anyone else exhausted?
