  • Stepmoms Feel Like They Have The Devil On One Shoulder and the Angel On The Other The angel and the devil sits on the shoulders of all stepmoms.  You know what I mean.  Mother's Day is a perfect example.  The angel on my right shoulder says: "I don't want to cause any conflicts.  I want the kids to spend time with their mother. This is my main concern." The devil on my left shoulder whispers the following: "I work really hard.  After all I have done for those kids, the least they can do is spend some time with me on Mother's Day.  I deserve to be recognized!" The conflicted feelings make me just hate Mother's Day.  But, then I think, "Hey!  Just like everything else about my life as a stepmother, Mother's Day makes me face a core human need:  Seen, Heard, Mattered."  At the end of the day, isn't that what we all want?  We want to know that we mattered.  We want to be heard.  Since Mother's Day is a day of recognition, it brings those core needs to the

Can Faith Help the Stepmom? Yes, we did.  Heather Hetchler of Cafesmom and I did a radio show about faith and how it does or doesn't fit into our stepfamilies.  Faith is such a controversial topic because it is clearly related to religion.  In our case, Heather is Christian and I am Jewish.  For that reason, we thought it would be fun to discuss our faiths and see how we both fit faith into

Your Family Can Laugh Like This! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CQo2FJPLeQk We don't have to agree with how our partner is raising his/her children.  Your stepchildren do not have to like you.  The ex-wife does not have to like you.  None of these conditions stops us from having a good laugh. First, know that laughter is the cure for all fear.  It is the antidote to fear.  Many of our

It Takes Time for People to Know, LIke and Trust You. That's okay! When you think about buying a product or service, your preference is the work with someone that you know, like and trust.  It is a basic tenet of business and it takes time.  When you think about businesses that you frequent, how long did it take you to know, like and trust that person? Tell me if I am wrong, but I will

Hug Your Stepkids and Get a Coke! I love simple, 'stick to your ribs' foods.  You know like a dinner of turkey and stuffing or meatloaf and mashed potatoes.  I love these foods because they are simple and make me feel comforted.  So, I found it funny that a beverage company understood this concept.  Have you seen the new Coke vending machines?  Coke has developed vending machines that

I Am a Better Person Because of My StepChildren Stepchildren come into our life for a reason.  This touching rendition of I Have Been Changed from the play, #Wicked, speaks volumes for all of us stepmoms and our stepchildren.  It truly speaks to how lucky we are to have our stepchildren.  It is a tribute to forgiveness, love and family. Although the video is a little blurry, it is

A stepfamily is like an electrical circuit with wires curving in, out, over and under. Sometimes, two wires meet and there is a spark. But, the  mechanics still work.  The job gets done.  This thought was inspired by the creation of a robot built by a wonderful class of physics students from Yerucham, Israel. Their robot shoots basketballs accurately into the basket.  They won 2nd place in the

Bruce Leads our Stepfamily Through his Deep Love for All of Us Today is my husband's birthday.  In my head, I truly think of him as the King of our Castle.  As much as I complain about the image of the stepmother in our fairy tales, I feel as if my life has been a fairy tale.  It has been a beautiful fairy tale because of my husband. My husband, Bruce, is definitely our King.  He sets
